What should I do if the internet on my iPhone is not working well?

Often the problem of poor Internet on iPhone is solved without complicated manipulations. Here it is more important to know the cause: a failure in the operator's network, operating system parameters, tariff plan limits and other nuances. By the way, we will tell you about them in this article, and we will also understand how to "make" the Internet work faster and more stable.

Start with the basics

If the internet is not working well on your iPhone, reconnect the connection. It's simple:

  • Method No. 1: Tap twice on "Data Transfer" (the antenna in the centre of the circle).

  • Method #2: Turn on and then turn off "Airplane Mode" (there is an aircraft in the centre of the circle).

All this can be done in the "Control Panel". To open it, you need to swipe down from the top right corner of the display or up from the bottom edge (depending on the operating system version).

Restarting iPhone

When the smartphone restarts, the operation of the operating system is optimised, the RAM is cleared of "unnecessary". Therefore, sometimes restarting solves the problem with bad internet.

Checking the balance

Another cause of Internet connection problems is traffic limitation or lack of funds on your account. Therefore, do not forget to check your balance periodically or change your tariff plan to a more suitable one.

Checking the sim card

Mobile Internet may not work due to a faulty "sim card", as well as operator restrictions. To check this, insert another card into your phone. If the connection works, it means that the problem is in the SIM card and it needs to be solved through the operator.

There are cases when the reason for poor connection is hidden in failures of the mobile network. This information should be clarified directly with the provider by calling the technical support phone number.

Activating the fast network

Sometimes your smartphone automatically activates 3G instead of LTE. This happens in places with unstable high-speed signal. However, 3G is slower, and we're not happy with that. Here's what you need to do:

  • Open "Settings" and tap on "Cellular communication". The "Sim-cards" menu should open.

  • Tap on "Basic", then go to "Voice and Data" and select LTE.

Note that the path depends on the operating system version.

Going out of town - switch to 3G

Outside the city limits (in a dacha, village, forest or near a body of water) it is better to switch to 3G. The point is that there can be only one tower with LTE signal nearby. All smartphones nearby will be connected to this station. The signal will be good, but the data transfer rate will be low. Therefore, in this situation 3G will be the best option: pages and feeds in social networks will load faster.

You can switch manually. And when you get to the city, go back to the old settings with LTE.

Disabling VPN

VPN also slows down the internet considerably. If you don't need encryption right now, open the required programme and disable the technology. You can also disable it via Settings > VPN.

Closing apps that eat up traffic

Background applications can "eat" traffic, as they are still running and therefore still using the Internet. That's why you need to close programmes in the "background". To do this, swipe up from the bottom of the display and swipe applications upwards.

Not saving data anymore

Your smartphone has a Data Saver feature. Its purpose is to limit the use of traffic for programmes that run in the background. When this option is enabled, the data transfer speed is reduced. To disable it, open Settings, go to Cellular, select your SIM card, and make the slider in the Data Saving menu inactive.

Disabling modem mode

Another reason why the Internet slows down on iPhone is that the modem mode is enabled. When this feature is active, mobile traffic can be used by other devices that are familiar to your smartphone: devices with your Apple ID, devices from "Family Access".

To switch off the option, open "Settings", look for "Modem Mode" and switch it off.

Disable update autoloading

Internet connection quality also drops due to content updates. To solve the problem, you need to do the following steps:

  • Go to Settings.

  • Select "Basic."

  • Tap on "Content Update" and select Wi-Fi.

So, content/apps will only update when you have a stable Wi-Fi connection, not when mobile data is enabled.

If you want to disable auto-uploading updates, go to Settings, then to the App Store and turn off the slider next to "Automatic Downloads".

Resetting the network settings

Why does my iPhone have poor internet connection? The answer may lie in an overflowing cache that needs to be cleared. To do this, you need to reset the network settings. But note that after all manipulations you will have to reconnect to Wi-Fi, reconfigure the mobile data connection.

Action Algorithm:

  • Go to Settings.

  • Tap on "Basic.".

  • Tap "Transfer or reset iPhone".

You're all set - enjoy fast internet surfing.

But there are times when data transmission is still slow after all manipulations. The problem may lie in a weak signal. For example, in a city, there are blind spots in basements, buildings with thick walls or on high floors. Sometimes the signal is obstructed by densely planted trees. The solution is to move out of the blind spot, go to a higher elevation, or switch to Wi-Fi.

By the way, a thick case with metal inserts can also negatively affect the signal. Therefore, if there are problems with data transmission in places where everything should work fine, remove the cover.
