At its fall presentation, Apple unveiled three updated smartwatch series: the Apple Watch SE 3, the Apple Watch Series 11, and the Apple Watch Ultra 3. All of them feature powerful hardware and retain key capabilities, but there are significant differences between them. We have prepared a practical comparison of the 2025 Apple Watches to help you choose the perfect gadget.
General characteristics of smartwatches
All versions of the 2025 smartwatches run on the S10 chip, which is responsible for the fast response of the interface and the efficient operation of built-in algorithms. The gadgets track daily activity, sync with the iPhone and display notifications, are controlled by gestures, and support Apple Pay payments.
The Apple Watch is used for sports, featuring a set of sensors that allow you to monitor your heart rate, pulse, and calories burned. Sleep tracking options have improved with the release of watchOS 26: Sleep Score takes into account duration and physiological parameters and gives an assessment. The price of the 2025 Apple Watch depends on specific features.
The Apple Watch Ultra and Apple Watch Series can now track possible signs of hypertension and warn you when it’s time to see a doctor. One of the new options is Workout Buddy, which can encourage you during your workout by analyzing your data. But to do this, you need to connect to an iPhone with Apple Intelligence support and Bluetooth headphones, and select English as the primary language of the device.
Which Apple Watch to Choose: Differences Between New Models
Visually, smartwatches differ in size, materials, and case color options. Each series also has different display brightness, specific features, and battery life.
Apple Watch Ultra 3 for Extreme Sport
You can buy the Apple Watch Ultra 3 for travel and extreme sports. It is a flagship model designed for active recreation: mountain biking, hiking, diving (up to 100 m) and other sports, including high-speed ones. The watch is equipped with a dual-band GPS system. This allows the gadget to determine its location more accurately, which is especially important in locations with complex terrain or dense buildings: in the mountains, canyons, forests, and cities. The watch also has a 5G modem.
The Apple Watch Ultra 3 is the first to feature a satellite SOS function: in emergencies, the watch can send a signal regardless of mobile operators. This option is not available in all countries; it is currently supported in the US, Canada, Australia, and some European countries — read more in the reference guide.
The Apple Watch Ultra 3 is designed for long battery life: up to 42 hours under normal use and up to 72 hours in power reserve mode. The screen brightness of up to 3000 nits with a size of 49 mm remains the same, but the wide-angle format has appeared in this series for the first time — information can be quickly viewed at any angle.
Apple Watch Series 11: Overview of Universal Features
Comparing the Apple Watch Ultra 3 to the Apple Watch Series 11, it can be said that the latest model has become a universal flagship. The watch is suitable for walking, fitness, snorkeling, or mountain recreation, and its basic functionality is on par with the specialized series.
What’s new in the eleventh generation:
- 5G cellular support;
- a new palette of seven colors (in titanium and aluminum cases);
- up to 24 hours of battery life in standard mode;
- Ion-X glass is better protected from scratches.
This Apple Watch Series is often used for health monitoring: the gadget can perform an ECG, alert you to possible hypertension, and analyze the amount of oxygen in your blood. The available workouts are easy to customize. The 42 or 46 mm displays conveniently show information.
Apple Watch SE 3: Basic Model Features
If you want a basic watch with essential features, you can buy the Apple Watch SE 3, which has all the important functions. The gadget tracks physical activity, sleep phases, and changes in skin temperature on the wrist. It can be controlled using gestures and Siri, among other things.
The main differences between the Apple Watch SE 3 and Apple Watch Series 11 are in size, display brightness, and some sensors. For example, the Apple Watch SE 3 does not track blood oxygen levels and does not have a depth gauge, but it does have an Always-On display, fast charging, and 5G in the cellular version. Compared to the previous generation, the watch case is now stronger, and the glass is four times more resistant to scratches and other damage. The screen itself comes in two sizes: 44 or 40 mm.
The Apple Watch SE 3 is often purchased as a replacement phone for children: it can be set up via a parent’s iPhone, assigned a separate number, restricted access to certain functions, and location tracking enabled. The gadget lasts up to 18 hours in normal mode and up to 32 hours in energy-saving mode.
Sum up
It is difficult to single out the best model among the new releases — each one is designed for different tasks. For example, if you’re looking for a fitness watch, you could go for the Apple Watch Series 11 — it’s a versatile model. If you’re into extreme sports and often head to the mountains, forest, or coast, the Apple Watch Ultra 3 is worth considering. For everyday use and basic functions, the Apple Watch SE 3 is sufficient.
